So what has been happening in the last 11 days I hear you ask!

Following the success of our previous library based bakes sales we decided to mix it up a bit and head down to Kings Buildings for our last 2 sales. The first on March 9th raised £73.87 in 3 hours, and the most recent one on March 16th raised £40.37.

This week was also the EGP AGM with next years committee being elected and any amendments to constitutions being voted on.
Here is the new committee for 2012/2013 and i am your new I.T Sec! Exciting times.

Following our paper clip challenge before Christmas, the fridge carafe is now available for you to bid on, on eBay! You know you want to.

Yesterday we also took advantage of the fact it was St.Patricks day AND the final 3 six nations games. The pubs of Edinburgh were bursting with people willing to support our cause and donate there small change! An afternoons work raised a very impressive £322.82. Good effort team!

This week Ben also secured us a spot at The Gyle Centre to do a sponsored bike on June 9th.

Coming up this Wednesday is our Society Olympics! bound to be an awesome night!

KONY 2012 is a film and campaign by Invisible Children that aims to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice.

Everything else....

During the recent Six Nations games we also had a very successful bucket collect around the pubs of Edinburgh, raising over £400 and a few euros too. Drunk people are excellent fund-raising targets. Also a big shout out to Lyndsey and Dave who braved the rain and completed the Meadows Marathon on Sunday in appropriately wild attire.

As well as personal donations, selling quizzes, and Ben's mum selling a scarf for £100 i think that about covers all the fund-raising we have completed so far to raise over £3,500!

Just keep going....

Along with the Malawi DAMRA team, we recently sold glow sticks and food at The Big Cheese. With missing buckets, and drunks stealing glowsticks it was an eventful, but all in all successful night.

No doubt our biggest event so far was our club night at The Third Door. Frani and Dave designed some very professional looking leaflets which we proceeded to plaster all over the uni.

Malawi Kachimbeka went wild and decked the club in cargo nets and malawi themed signs, then filled the place with animals and jungle tunes. I think everyone who attended would agree it was a very successful and fun night, raising over £400 towards our target!

Just had to include a photo of lyndseys epic face paint!

The Fund-Raising story so far.....

So of our £10,896 total we have so far raised over £3,500! I am sure you are all wondering how we have achieved a third of our target so far, so i will try to let you know....

We, the Malawi Kachimbeka team do love a good bake sale and have held several outside Edinburgh University Library since our fund-raising events began. With the quality of the cakes produced increasing with each sale and generous sugary donations from family and friends (notably Ben's sisters..) we have averaged around £100 each time for our efforts.

Next came the paperclip exercise. The aim of the game was to, in competing teams, begin with a paper-clip and swap it for an item of higher value and by the end of the day see which team had the highest value item. One man eventually ended up with a house! unfortunately this man was not in our team. Taking advantage of the German Market and the festive spirit seeming to increase everyone's generosity, we did complete several successful swaps...

 To be continued....

Hello...

Hello..

Well finally started my blog, better late than never as they say! As you may know on the 29th June this year, I am heading to Malawi with Edinburgh Global Partnerships to build a Health Access Centre. Hopefully this blog will keep you update with our fund-raising progress and follow our preparations before we depart!

Well to fill you in on the story so far...
The Malawi Kachimbeka 2012 team consists of our co-ordinators Lyndsey and Dave. The volunteers me, Rachel, Ross, Ben, Ashley, Leonie and Franziska and our Project Parent Joel. Just a little snapshot below from our first training day-

The aim of our project is to build a health centre which shall compose of wards for male, female and children patients for referral to the nearest hospital an under five clinic hall, HTC & VCT rooms ,a pharmacy room and a consultation room.  To fund the construction we need to raise £10, 896 of which we have raised just over £3, 500 so far.
